Author's notes
Growing up, I absolutely fell in love with the music of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. I bought every Dionne Warwick album ever made. When I set out to write Burt & Me I played a hunch that I was not alone in my admiration of these two talented gentlemen. And what a hunch that has turned out to be! When Act II Playhouse added Burt & Me to their 2010 season, it was done as a summer add-on. Despite a disappointing opening weekend review from the Philadelphia Inquirer, the show would go on to become their biggest money-maker by far and play to 99% capacity for the entire run of the show. Four glowing reviews were to follow. In a season at Act II Playhouse that featured such shows as On Golden Pond and two Philadelphia first-run productions of Broadway shows (Boeing Boeing and The Story of My Life), the success of Burt & Me was a cause for great excitement. One thing that we learned from this production is that people will flock to hear the music of the legendary team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Moreover, television shows like the very popular "Glee" have created a new and younger audience for their wonderful music. Burt & Me is intended to provide a story line that seamlessly transports the audience from one great Bacharach/David classic to the next. The plot has been described by critics as "romantic," "clever," "cute," but most of all "fun." Musical arranger, Vince DiMura, (arranger of the hit musical show My Way) has created marvelous "Glee"-like renditions of the music of these two giants. Not only are the recognizable songs a treat for the audience, so are the amazing arrangements. The name of the show immediately invites the question "Who is Burt?" As soon as people read further that it is Burt Bacharach, they are instantly drawn to the show. Burt & Me is now available to professional theaters on an individual basis. Feel free to request a perusal copy of the manuscript. See this webpage for details. If you don't, you'll be "wishin' and hopin'" you had. |
